SPS inclined functional materials 'SPS-FGMs'
With a single thought, create something that didn't exist in the world. This is a new material born and raised in Japan.
◆SPS Sintering Method The SPS (Spark Plasma Sintering) method, invented in Japan in the early 1960s, is a technique that fills powdered raw materials into a mold and applies current to sinter them. It can produce uniform dense bodies even from difficult-to-sinter materials, reducing the time to about one-tenth of conventional methods and power consumption to about one-third to one-fifth. Today, it is a highly valued technology in Europe, the United States, Asian countries, and BRICs nations. ◇Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs) Metals and ceramics, easily machinable materials and superhard materials. FGMs are "materials whose composition, structure, and physical properties are integrated continuously or stepwise in the thickness direction or spreading direction" to achieve a balance of conflicting properties that are difficult to integrate. They were proposed in Japan in the mid-1980s, conceived within the context of space plane concepts. Starting with thermal stress-relief type FGMs, there are also porosity-graded FGMs that can impart strength and corrosion resistance to porous materials, and FGM superhard materials that can be machined, all of which are inventions that overturn previous concepts, stemming from the ideas of customers.
